RELIVE THE 2022 FESTIVAL

The fourth edition of the Castrovillari Film Festival was held August 25-28, 2022 in Castrovillari and the territory of the Pollino National Park.

 

In addition to the evenings dedicated to the official short film competition, the programmed activities were divided into Cinema Events, including meetings, master classes and workshops and Events Dedicated to the Discovery of the Territory and Artists of the Pollino National Park area:

– Special award “Calabrian Author of the Year” to Francesco Costabile
– Special screening of the film “Una Femmina”
– Masterclass “L’Importanza dello Sguardo” with Rossella Inglese
– Masterclass “Enter the Metaverse” with Andrea Gatopoulos
– Workshop “The Actor Creates” with Franco Giusti
– Meeting with director Francesco Costabile
– Meeting with the artistic directors of the partner festivals

 

EVENTS TO DISCOVER THE TERRITORY AND ITS ARTISTS
– Nature walk in Campotenese with Silvio Carrieri, official guide of the Pollino National Park
– Tasting of typical products in partnership with Catasta Pollino and Cantine Ferrocinto
– Summer opening of Castrovillari Museum System
– Retrospective “Words and colors of Andrea Alfano, painter and poet”
– “Per difetto” exhibition by Deborah Graziano

 

The prizes awarded by the competition were as follows:

GRAND JURY PRIZE: “Criatura” by María Silvia Esteve
SPECIAL JURY AWARD: “Cherries” by Vytautas Katkus.
BEST CALABRESE SHORT FILM: “Il Nostro Sangue” by Gino Palummo
YOUTH JURY AWARD: “Techno, Mama” by Saulius Baradinskas

 

BEST DIRECTOR: María Silvia Esteve for “Criatura” ex aequo Lorenzo Tardella for “The Dependent Variables.”
BEST SCREENPLAY: Sofia Georgovassili for “Memoir of a Veering Storm.”
BEST ACTOR: Motiejus Aškelovičius for “Techno, Mama.”
BEST ACTRESS: Antonija Belazelkoska for “North Pole.”
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Vladimir Samoilovski for “North Pole”
BEST EDITING: Shuli Huang, Yang Yang for “Will You Look at Me.”
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE: David V. Bodnar for “Bye Little Block!”

 

The international jury consisted of 11 jurors: Anna Paliga (Poland), actress of the Polish Netflix series “Cracow Monsters”, Lucas Elliot Eberl (USA), director and actor seen in Clint Eastwood’s “Letters from Iwo Jima” and the Marvel Netflix series “Daredevil”, Edgar Morais (Portugal), director selected at the Oscar® circuit festival “PalmSprings SHORTFEST” in the USA, Rossella Inglese (Italy), director selected 2 times at the Venice Film Festival, Srinivasa Santhanam (India), program director of the prestigious Indian festival “Pune International Film Festival”, Tommaso Santambrogio (Italy), winning director at the Venice International Film Critics Week and nominated for the David di Donatello 2022, Andrea Benjamin Manenti (Italy), director of photography selected 4 times at the “Venice Film Festival”, Andrea Gatopoulos (Italy), producer and director founder of the film production company “IL VARCO s. r.l.s.”, Antonio Romagnoli (Italy), director and screenwriter from Calabria, Matteo Russo (Italy), director and screenwriter from Calabria.

 

A total of 13 guests took part in the festival evenings:

– Franco Giusti, actor seen in the series “Gli Orologi del Diavolo” and “Speravo de Morì Prima”
– Andrea Gatopoulos, director and producer selected for the Cannes Film Festival 2022
– Rossella Inglese, director selected twice at the Venice Film Festival
– Tommaso Santambrogio, director selected at the Venice Film Festival and nominated at the David di Donatello Awards
– Matteo Russo, director from Calabria and artistic director of the Calabria Movie Film Festival
– Antonio Romagnoli, director of the film “Polvere”, played by Roberta Mattei
– Matteo Delai, director and artistic director of the Desenzano Film Festival
– Sara Scalera, director and artistic director of the Apulia Film Fest
– Lorenzo Pallotta, director of the feature film “Sacro Moderno” presented at the Rome Film Festival
– Gino Palummo, director of the short film in competition “Our Blood”
– Domenico Lo Polito, mayor of Castrovillari
